Porter remanded for fraud

Sekondi, Dec 1, GNA- Kojo Amo, a 69-year-old porter on Monday appeared before a Sekondi District Magistrate's Court for attempting to defraud by false pretences.

He pleaded not guilty and was remanded in Prison custody to re-appear on December 9, 2004.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Agnes Boafo, said Miss Gladys Acquah, a daughter of the complainant, Madam Esther Boafo owned a hairdressing saloon at Apowa near Takoradi.

On November 26, this year, the daughter left her the saloon in the care of her mother.

Inspector Boafo said while her mother was looking after the saloon, Amo entered the saloon, introduced himself as a magician and demanded 100,000 cedis from her for him to double it for 100 million cedis. The complainant invited one Pastor Arthur to witness the magical performance by the accused.

The prosecution said Miss Gladys Acquah entered the saloon at that moment and identified the accused person as the one who used the same trick to dupe her of 90,000 cedis.

Inspector Boafo said the accused was therefore arrested and handed over to the Police.
