Purchasing clerk in court for embezzlement

Twifo Praso (C/R), June 23, GNA - Paul Hagan, a purchasing clerk of WAECO Cocoa Buying Company at Praso, was on Tuesday granted 6 million cedis' bail by the Praso district magistrate court for allegedly embezzling 3.375 million cedis belonging to the company. Hagan pleaded guilty to fraudulent breach of trust but pleaded with the court to give him time to pay the money. The court ordered him to pay the amount in two weeks and reappear on Friday July 8.

Prosecuting, Chief Inspector George Okine told the court that during the 2004/2005 main cocoa season Hagan collected 9 million cedis from the company to purchase cocoa for the company. He supplied cocoa worth 5.625 million cedis but failed to account for the balance of 3.375 million cedis.
