The Northern Regional Police Command is on a manhunt for five armed robbers who allegedly killed a 55-year-old driver identified as Mohammed Alidu and his 20-year-old conductor, Abdulai Alhassan.
Another victim, who was on his motorbike, was left unconscious and is currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The two deceased were alone in a Tamale-Karaga-bound Kia Rhino vehicle with registration number, GR-6226-14 when the robbery took place.
The Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service in the Northern Region, DSP Yussif Tanko, said the robbery happened in the morning of Sunday, 27 May 2018 at Pishegu in the Savelugu municipality.
He said the robbers had fled the scene when the police arrived.
DSP Tanko disclosed that the bodies were conveyed to the Karaga District Hospital but later released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic tradition.
The police is urging the public to assist with investigations by identifying and arresting the suspects.
There are currently heavy police patrols on all highways in the region. The police command has also urged drivers to remain calm.
