Security Officer, barber charged with theft

Asamankese, July 25, GNA - A security officer and a barber, who allegedly stole a welding machine belonging to the company where the Security Officer worked had been put before the Asamankese Circuit court.

Waja David, 26, the Security Officer and Kwaku Eric, 29, the barber pleaded not guilty to two counts of conspiracy to steal and stealing the welding machine and were remanded in prison custody until August 2. Prosecuiting, Police Inspector R. A. Sappor, said on July 14, the Delta Security Services, which maintained security at the Ghana Oil Palm Development Company (GOPDC) received a report from the company that their welding machine valued at seven million cedis was missing. Then on July 16, a witness in the case boarded a vehicle from GOPDC bound for Asuom.

On reaching Asuom Police Station bus stop, Eric alighted holding an iron bar, suspected to be part of the stolen machine. He said the witness confronted Eric and he instantly admitted that, the iron bar was part of the stolen machine and mentioned Waja, the security officer as the one who gave it to him.

Inspector Sappor said Eric led the police to his room where the machine was retrieved and Waja was later arrested. He said Waja told the police that he received a call from someone that the machine was hidden in the bush and so he asked Eric to go for it.

The Prosecutor said efforts were being made to arrest the two other suspects in connected with the offence.
