Sekondi March.10 - GNA- A Sekondi District Magistrate's Court on Thursday convicted Nana Osei, a self-styled building contractor at Anaji Namibia near Takoradi of stealing. The accused who pleaded guilty is to re-appear on March 16 this year for sentencing. In the dock with him was Frank Nkromah, a driver's mate charged with resisting arrest. Nkromah pleaded not guilty and he is to re-appear on March 23 this year. Prosecuting, Police Inspector Andam Okyere said sometime in December last year, one Ekow contacted the complainant, Dominic Andoh, a building contractor residing at Kojokrom, to put up a building for him at Anaji Namibia.
He said the complainant bought and conveyed some cement blocks and stone quarry to the site.
Inspector Okyere said on March 5 this year, the accused who lived near the site, stole 380 pieces of cement blocks valued at 2,090,000 cedis and a quantity of quarry stones valued at 1,950,000 cedis. He said the following day, the complainant detected the theft and reported the matter to the Police.
Inspector Okyere said during Police investigations, Osei was arrested but Nkromah who was with him obstructed the Police from arresting him but Nkromah was overpowered.
He said Osei returned 150 pieces of the stolen cement blocks and after further investigations was charged with the offence. 11 March 06
