Self-styled medical doctor jailed 108 months

Kumasi, May 24, GNA - A 24-year-old unemployed who posed as a medical doctor at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) and swindled three students of a total amount of GH¢330.00 under the pretext of secu ring admission for them at KATH's Nursing School has been jailed 108 months in

hard labour by a Kumasi Circuit Court. Kwaku Boafo pleaded guilty. Police Chief Inspector Comfort Baffour-Kyei told the court presided over by Mr Justice Emmanuel Amoh-Yartey that the convict convinced a student, Sil via Osei, into believing that he was a medical practitioner at KATH and could

help her gain admission to the hospital's nursing school. The lady told her two other friends, Charlotte Mensah, and Faustina Mensah, were also interested. The prosecution said the three handed over to Boafo completed admissi on forms and GH¢330.00 but he failed to secure them admission. The convict had earlier, through the same false pretence, enjoyed the

benevolence of Mr Osei Asibey Owusu, an employee of the Amen Scientific Herbal Centre. For three weeks, Owusu shared his Adum accommodation with Boafo. He had lied to his benefactor that he had been suspended by KATH management because of a problem with one of the nurses and therefore need ed temporary accommodation. The prosecution said the convict was unmasked when checks at the hospital by Owusu showed he was an impostor. She said Boafo was consequently asked by Mr Owusu to quit his hou se and as he left he stole the latter's laptop computer valued at GH¢700.0 0, which was retrieved when he was traced to his hideout.
