A circuit court in Cape Coast on Friday jailed Mark Kwame Adams, a 24-year-old shop attendant, 10 years in hard labour for defrauding six people of GH¢ 25,000.00 under false pretence.
Adams pleaded guilty.
Chief Inspector Francis Ockom, told the court presided over by Mrs. Florence Kai Otu that, the convict worked in a hardware shop of the first complainant Mrs. Grace Arthur, at the Kotokuraba market in Cape Coast .
The prosecution said on March 13 this year, Mrs Arthur detected that items worth GH¢20,186.00 were stolen from her shop.
Chief Inspector Ockom said when Adams was questioned about the stolen items, he could not give any tangible reason for the lost of the items.
The convict rather left the shop and resurfaced on Monday April 2, and Mrs. Arthur caused his arrest.
Chief Inspector Ockom said whilst police investigations were ongoing, five other persons came to the police station and reported that Adams had collected various sums of money totalling about GH¢4,186.00 from them with the promise to supplying them with building materials.
The prosecution said the five complainants produced receipts of payments made for building materials.**
