Akim Swedru (E/R), April 18, GNA - A circuit court at Akim Swedru in the Eastern region, on Wednesday remanded six people belonging to an armed robbery gang for stealing and causing damage to property. The accused persons, Kwasi Appiah, a mechanic; Justice Jones, a salesman; Kwame Bimpong, a farmer; Richard Afrifa, bicycle repairer; Kwadwo Fosuhene, a cobbler and John Adzewoda, an electronic technician will reappear on May 19.
The court refused to take their plea.
They six allegedly broke into the room a couple and stole their money, after shooting and wounding the man. Presenting the facts of the case, Police Chief Inspector Benjamin Osei Kwadwo told the court presided over by Mr. Edward Bosompem Apenkwa that on March 16, this year at about 1230 after midnight, the accused wore masks and used cement blocks to break the front door of the couple's house at Akim Asawase.
According to the Prosecutor, the accused who were in possession of locally manufactured pistols attacked the couple in their bedroom and forcibly collected a pump action gun from the man before ordering him at gunpoint to surrender all money in the bedroom.
He said they made away with Nokia mobile phone, gold wristwatch, a pair of wedding rings and GH¢500.
