The Achimota District Court has adjourned the case of Nana Barima Ababio, also known as Benlord Ababio, a self-proclaimed traditional ruler accused of killing a soldier over a land dispute near Kasoa, to July 17, 2024.

The court did not convene as the trial judge was on leave, prompting the prosecution to request a new date.

Meanwhile, the GNA has learned that the police have yet to receive the Bill of Indictment necessary to commence committal proceedings.

Benlord and his accomplice, Nana Kofi Kwakye, remain in lawful custody.

They have been charged with conspiracy, and Benlord faces an additional charge of murdering Lance Corporal Michael Danso. The court has reserved their pleas.

According to the prosecution, on April 30, 2024, at approximately 1600 hours, Lance Corporal Michael Danso, along with colleagues Lance Corporals Abdul Omar Rahman and Ametus Matthew, drove to the Millennium City Police Station in a Toyota RAV4 vehicle to report a case of trespassing.

This action followed reports that some individuals were unlawfully developing land owned by Lance Corporal Abdul Omar Rahman.

Upon arrival at the police station, the accused, Benlord, opened fire on Lance Corporal Michael Danso, who was behind the wheel, resulting in his immediate death.

The police subsequently disarmed and arrested Benlord for further investigation.
