The Suntreso Police in Kumasi are holding two people - a student and trader - over alleged attack and robbery of two sisters of their cash and phones.
Richard Amankwa and Blessing Acquah were said to have forcibly seized four mobile phones - Techno, Mobitel, Sony tablet and Nokia S-2, all valued at about GH¢5,000 in addition GH¢1,150 from the victims.
Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Ampofo Duku, Deputy Ashanti Regional Commander, told a press briefing that the incident happened on January 26.
The victims, Dora Opoku Fofie and Ernestina Opoku Fofie had joined a taxi with one person already on board from the Santasi roundabout to Abrepo Junction.
On the way, the driver picked another male passenger and a few meters to the VIP Hotel, the two together with the driver attacked the ladies, robbed them of the phones and cash and pushed them out of the car.
They also removed the SIM Cards and threw them away as the vehicle sped off.
ACP Duku said the student was tracked down on Facebook aided by the configuration setting of one of the stolen phones and was arrested.
He denied any wrongdoing and insisted he bought it from Acquah, a phone dealer, at Adum and he was also arrested.
Dora has identified Amankwa as one of the attackers.
