Hohoe, June 3, GNA - The Volta Regional Police Highway Patrol Squad has intercepted quantities of dried leaves suspected to be cannabis stashed in the rear compartment of a Taxi cab belonging to Nana Kwame Ansong, a sub-chief of Worawora.
Briefing the Ghana News Agency, Mr Anthony Shelley Darkey, Hohoe Divisional Crime Officer said the consignment was intercepted on an Opel Astra Taxi Cab with registration number GW 7948 R on May 28, this year, by the squad on routine patrol duties on the Hohoe-Jasikan highway. He said the driver of the cabby and its four occupants including Nana Ansong denied ownership of the large "Ghana Must Go" bag that contained the commodity at the point of interception, which compelled the squad to escort the suspects to the Hohoe Divisional Command for questioning.
Mr Darkey said during interrogation the cabby driver Emmanuel Asuka Boakye and the three other occupants mentioned Nana Ansong as the owner of the bag, which he vehemently denied. He said a team of Policemen were then dispatched to escort the suspect to Worawora, his village, where a search revealed quantities of seeds and dried leaves suspected to be cannabis under his bed. Mr Darkey said Nana Ansong then broke down into tears confessing that the consignment he collected from an unknown person in Hohoe belonged to him. The suspect would soon be arraigned before court, according to the Crime Officer.
