An armed robber, suspected to be of Fulani extraction, has been killed at Duu in the Wa East District.
The robber, whose name is not yet known, and two other accomplices, tried to rob a shop belonging to Mr Salifu Sambuo.
Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Edmond Nyamekye, Public Relations Officer of the Wa Regional Police Command, told the Ghana News Agency that the robbers arrived at the shop at about 0300 hours but met swift resistance from Mr Sambuo.
He said a struggle ensued between the robbers and the shop owner, and he was able to overpower one of them, hitting him on the head with a stone rendering him unconscious.
ASP Nyamekye said the two other accomplices, realising what had happened to their colleague, fled the scene.
The robbers failed to abscond with 160 Ghana cedis and a mobile phone belonging to Mr Sambuo.
He said the police was called to the scene and the robber was conveyed to the Wa Regional Hospital for medical attention, but was pronounced dead on arrival.
The body has been deposited at the hospital’s mortuary, while the police had intensified search to arrest the other two robbers.
