Suspected drug dealer arrested in Tarkwa

A Tarkwa Circuit Court has remanded into police custody a suspected drug dealer for possessing narcotics drugs without authority.

The suspect, Ama Martha, 40, pleaded not guilty and would re-appear before the court on May 14.

Prosecuting Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Albert Aditta told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that the complainants, led by Kofi Breya, are unit committee executives of Akyemkrom while the accused resides at Manso-Amenfi all in the Western region.

He said about a month ago, the husband of the accused, Amo Kwao was involved in an altercation case which was reported at the Manso-Amenfi police station.

DSP Aditta said when the police went to the farm cottage at Akyemkrom to arrest Kwao as part of the investigation, he sneaked unnoticed, and the police contacted the complainants for assistance.

He said on April 27 around 5:00 am, the complainants traced Kwao to his cottage and after arresting him, he escaped again while they were returning to Akyemkrom.

DSP Adiita said at about 8:30 am, they saw the accused emerging from her cottage with a polythene bag and arrested her.

He said when the bag was thoroughly searched they found a plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa (Indian hemp).

The accused was arrested and brought to the Manso-Amenfi police station.

DSP Adiita said the accused in her caution statement admitted that her husband sells Indian hemp and that she had warned him on several occasion to desist from that act, but he has refused to heed to her advice.

The Prosecutor said the police are searching for the husband of the accused who is still on the run.
