Suspected robbers arrested with military uniforms and ammunition

Police in Jacobu in the Ashanti Region have arrested somefour suspected armed robbers with guns and ammunition and military uniforms.

The arrest was made following a tip off that some armed persons were driving in a Daewoo Matiz taxi cab with registration number BA 2855-17 which was heading towards a mining site in Korbo near Jacobu from the direction of Obuasi.

Speaking in an interview with OTEC fm’s Evans Agyei Sikapa, the Jacobu District Police Commander Supt. Abdulai Iddrisu stated the police squad made contact with the suspects between Akyemukrom and Nakawura near Jacobu and arrested them on Sunday 23rd June.

According to him, a search of the car revealed a dismantled pump action firearm, 27 BB live cartridges, one foreign pistol,one machete, 17 plastic disposable rubber handcuffs andtwo sets of military uniforms concealed in the inner parts of the taxi's door.

The suspected robbers in the said taxi cab were 28-year-old Prince Arhin (Afful), Emmanuel Kesse 19 years, Kwaku Sarpong 27 and driver, Prince Adjei, 24.

Supt. Iddrisu stated the Police traced and arrested a Prince Arhin Afful, said to be the leader of the gang at Aboagyekrom who had a cutter and some cloths in a bag.

He added that investigations have begun as the suspects are detained by the Police and will soon be arranged before the law court for prosecution.

Mr. Adbulai Iddrisu however urged the public to assist the police by providing them with information about suspected robbers to ease their work and also enable them protect the public and properties.
