Suspected transformer thief electrocuted

An unidentified man was electrocuted to death in Suhyen, in the Eastern Region, after attempting to steal an ECG transformer.

The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

The young man was found dead near an Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) transformer.

Reporting the incident on Nyankonton Mu Nsem on Rainbow Radio 87.5FM, Agya Nana said it is believed that the young man and his other accomplices came to the scene to steal the transformer, but unfortunately, the deceased was electrocuted.

He stated that over the past two months, thieves had stolen transformers in the area.

He said two communities, including Akyease and another community, had their transformers stolen.

He revealed that several tools used by electricians were found where the young man was electrocuted.

Meanwhile, the Deputy NADMO Director of New Juaben North Municipal Assembly, who doubles as the Assembly member for Gyamfikrom Electoral Area, Kankam Twumasi Daniel, commented on the matter, saying: “Following a distress call received from Suhyen in the early hours of Tuesday, a response team comprising officers from the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) and the Ghana Police Service was immediately dispatched to the scene.”

“Upon arrival, we discovered the lifeless body of an unidentified man believed to be in his 30s near the ECG transformer.”
