Assin Fosu (C/R) July 16, GNA- Five persons, including a teacher and a female trader were on Thursday remanded in prison custody by the Assin Fosu magistrate court for allegedly dealing in narcotics drugs.
They are Emmanuel Adoba Okyere, 31, a teacher at Assin Nyankomase and Yaa Korkor, 38 a trader of Assin Darmang, Yaw Asamoah, 34, farmer, Randolph Kwame Acheampong, 31, trader and Kofi Boadu, 24, unemployed all from Assin Bereku.
Their pleas were not taken, would be arraigned on Wednesday July 27. Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Benjamin Banoe, told the court, presided over by Mr. Joseph Blay, that following persistent complaints by some concerned citizens of Assin Bereku of threats posed to security of persons and property by drug addicts in the town, on July 12 this year, the police in a swoop arrested Okyere in his room and some parcels of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp and powdered substance also suspected to be cocaine were found in the room.
The prosecutor said Okyere mentioned Acheampong, Asamoah and Korkor as his accomplices and later led the team to Assin Darmang and they were arrested in the bedroom of Korkor.
He said similar substances suspected to be Indian hemp and cocaine were also found.
Chief Inspector Banoe said they too mentioned one Boadu as their accomplice and he was also arrested from his hideout where similar substances were also found and he claimed ownership. 16 July 05
