Accra, Dec.15, GNA – Madam Christian Tetteh, a teacher and Secretary of Blessed Home branch in Akweteman Ward in Okaikoi North Constituency of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has filed a writ against the party and two others, Mr Andrew Okai Koi and Mr Augustus Ken Eshun.
She is seeking a declaration that the report of the Greater Accra Regional Vetting Committee of the party indicated that Mr Okai Koi and Mr Eshun should be disqualified from contesting the primaries in selecting an NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Constituency.
A declaration that the primaries held on November 26, 2011 in which the defendants were allowed to participate was null and void and should be re-run. An order of injunction to restrain Mr Okai Koi from holding himself out as the NDC Parliamentary candidate for the Constituency. In a statement of claim filed at an Accra High Court, Madam Tetteh said Mr Okai Koi was the purportedly elected Parliamentary Candidate of the NDC for the Constituency, while Mr Eshun was an aspirant for the seat.
It said when the party announced to conduct primaries to select parliamentary candidates, five aspirants including the two defendants filed their papers to contest the primaries.
The statement said in a report submitted to the National Executive Committee by the Greater Accra Regional Vetting Committee, it recommended that the two defendants should be disqualified from contesting the primaries.
It said in spite of the recommendations, the primaries went ahead and Mr Okai koi was declared winner and in compliance with grievance procedure in the party’s constitution, members of the party including the plaintiff wrote a petition to the National Executive Committee but nothing came out of it.
The statement said members of the party who felt extremely aggrieved by these developments organised a demonstration which was also ignored and it was obvious that unless the court stepped in to right the wrong, the fortunes of the party would suffer terribly as stated in the report of the Greater Accra Regional Vetting Committee.
