Tema Police caution chiefs against multiple sale of lands

The Tema Police Regional Command has cautioned chiefs, estate developers, and individuals to desist from multiple sale of land.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mrs Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri, Tema Police Regional Commander, who gave the caution, said multiple sales of lands around Adjei Kojo, Santeo, New York, Zenu, Ata Deka, Appollonia, among other areas, were creating too many problems for the Police.

DCOP Vib-Sanziri, speaking at the inauguration of a Police Post at Adjei Kojo, in the Tema West Constituency, explained that the practice also led to controversies where some aggrieved factions resorted to the use of armed land guards, some of whom became armed robbers by night.

She stressed that multiple sale of land was a criminal matter, and those who paraded themselves as land guards would not be spared by the Police as they had become a major problem in the Greater Accra Region.

“No amount of intimidation by some of those developers will cow the Police from carrying out their mandated functions in order to stop the lawlessness, which is a serious security threat,” she stated.

The Police Commander gave the assurance that her outfit would neither shield any such persons when arrested nor accept any intervention from any quarters on behalf of such criminals.

She called on residents to cooperate and show some respect to the Motor Traffic and Transport Unit (MTTU) and the visibility patrol personnel, who would be deployed on the roads to manage traffic and check criminal activities during the yuletide.

On the police post, DCOP Vib-Sanziri said she believed the presence of the facility would help in the further reduction of crime and give easy access to the people in and around Adjei Kojo to the Police instead of travelling to Ashaiman to report cases.

Mr Isaac Ashai Odamtten, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, stated that the police post was the second to be constructed in the Metropolis.

Mr Odamtten said the Tema Metropolitan Security Committee (MESEC) tasked itself to complete the construction of 20 security posts within the metropolis to improve upon the security and safety of the people.

He said with the completion of the police post, MESEC was confident that residents, especially children, would have the opportunity of walking freely in the communities without any exposure to harm.

The MCE gave the assurance that the Assembly would not relent on its mandate as it seeks the opinion and advice of the people in developing Tema.
