Tema, Feb. 18, GNA - The Tema Police Command has warned the public against new methods of operation by thieves within the township. A release from the Public Affairs Directorate signed by Police Inspector Olivia Turkson said the thieves either poured or sprayed acid on buildings to soften the walls before they break through them into houses to steal.
It said the modus operandi of the thieves was serious therefore; the public especially financial institutions and other business operators should tighten their security network to curtail this new development.
The police also warned the public about people who would defraud them and cited an incident recently where a 44-year-old Malian businessman was defrauded of 25,000 dollars in an attempt to buy gold. It said the Malian was given 100 pieces of cans containing Ore Fixer used to wash minerals especially gold, but the cans were later found to contain beans.
The police therefore; advised businessmen who deal in minerals to seek advice from the Minerals Commission.
In another development, the police had warned people who indulged in immoral acts along the main harbour-community road. The release said it had come to the notice of the police that some articulated truck drivers mostly foreigners engaged prostitutes and innocent girls in immoral activity in or under their trucks. It said such acts were rampant at areas around the Engene filling station, Black Star Line and Mearsk Line area. The release said it was an offence for people to indulge in such acts in public and warned that culprits would be arrested and prosecuted.
