Three persons arrested with fake dollars

Accra, April 14, GNA - The Accra North-East Divisional Command in Madina on Tuesday, arrested three persons in possession of sixty-three bundles of hundred -dollar bills.

Each bundle contained 163 pieces of hundred-dollar notes. The Divisional Commander, Chief Superintendent of Police, (CSP) Mrs. Elizabeth Alando gave the names of the suspects, as Madam Janet Adjetey, a trader, Charles Ndongo, a Cameroonian footballer and Joseph Afful, a taxi-driver from Kasoa.

Speaking to a team of pressmen, she said on April 11, 2006 at about 22:25 hours, a team of police patrolmen on duty, intercepted a taxicab with a registration No. AS 912 X, which Madam Janet Adjetey, trader from Teshgie had hired with the other suspects in it. According to Mrs. Alando, when the taxi was inspected, a metal box was found in the booth. The occupants could not explain what the contents of the box were and the police therefore, drove them to the Madina Police Station.

When the box was opened at the Police Station, it was found to contain dollar notes, in 100-dollar denomination, all bearing the same serial numbers.

In an interrogation with GNA, one of the suspets, Charles Ndongo said he brought the box from Coted'Ivoire for Madam Janet Adjetey and that the box and its contents were being conveyed to Janet's residence, when they were arrested.

Suspects have been detained, while the police continue with their investigations.
