Three persons get 15 years each for robbery

Three persons were on Tuesday sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each by an Accra Circuit Court presided over by Mr Francis Obiri for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Issac Opoku, Markus Asare and Afisu Mohammed conspired and robbed one Frank Brobbey Tenkorang of GH?68.00, and a Nokia Mobile phone worth GH? 70.00 through the threat of harm.

They are to serve 15 years each for conspiracy and 15 years each for robbery with both sentences running concurrently.

Prosecuting Mr Dominic Bakoma, Assistant State Attorney told the court that on December 8, 2014, at about 1100 hours, Frank Brobbey Tenkorang, the complainant who is a sprayer residing at Nungua, was returning from town where he had gone to buy some food for his supper.

He said he stopped near a drinking spot in Nungua called ‘Abrefi spot’ to urinate when he was attacked by the convicts all of who are residents of Nungua.

Mr Bakoma said the complainant also related that Afisu attempted to stab him with a knife but did not do so because the complainant did not resist the attack.

He said in the process, the convicts succeeded in robbing the complainant.

The prosecution said the complainant managed to cause the arrest of the convicts the following day at the Abrefi spot and sent them to the Nungua Police Station.

He said Markus initially denied the offence but later admitted committing the crime with two other people.
