Three police officers at the Elubo border interdicted

Half Assini (W/R), Jan. 12, GNA - The Police Administration

has with immediate effect interdicted three Police officers at the

Elubo border in the Western Region in connection with the death

of a suspect in their custody on January 7. They are Inspector E. K. Mensah the Station Officer of the

Elubo Police Station, Corporal Ayamba Bawa and Constable

Ebenezer Mensah. The Jomoro District Police Commander, Deputy

Superintendent of Police John Ferguson Dzineku confirmed this to

the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini on Tuesday. He said the Police Administration was conducting an

investigation into the death of the suspect, Mr Francis Nyanzu, 33,

a farmer at Cocoa Town near Elubo. He was kept in custody at the Elubo Police Station from

January 1 without bail until his death on January 7. Mr Dzineku said the Police Administration disassociated itself

from the act of the three Police officers and would ensure that they

are appropriately dealt with to serve as a deterrent to others. He said he had ordered that the body be deposited at the Effia

Nkwanta Regional Hospital mortuary in Sekondi for autopsy and

be kept there till the investigation is completed. Briefing the Ghana News Agency at Half Assini on

Wednesday, a family spokesman, Mr James K. Awuah said on

December 25 last year one Mr Kwaye accused the deceased of

having sexual intercourse with his wife at Cocoa Town, near Elubo

during the Christmas festivity. He said Mr Kwaye therefore demanded 20,000 Ghana cedis

from the deceased but he was unable to provide it. Mr Awuah said on January 1, Mr Kwaye went to the Elubo

police Station and reported the matter upon which the deceased

was arrested and kept in their custody until he was found dead in

the cell.
