An Accra Circuit Court on Monday remanded into Police custody one Jonathan Boamah, 31-year old trader for allegedly defiling a 15-year-old girl at Akweteman.
Boamah, charged with defilement, has pleaded not guilty and denied having sex with the victim but allegedly told the Police that he only engaged in romance with the victim.
Boamah is expected to reappear before the Court, presided over by Mrs Abena Oppong Adjin-Doku, on September 13.
Prosecuting, Chief Inspector Kofi Atimbire said the victim’s mother was the complainant in the matter and the victim was a class five pupil residing at Akweteman.
Chief Inspector Atimbire said Boamah resided at Tantra Hill in Accra.
According to prosecution the victim and her family had been tenants in the accused person father’s house. As a result of that, Boamah had been visiting the house frequently and unknown to the complainant, the victim had been dating Boamah for some months.
Prosecution said on August 21, this year, at 1130 hours, a witness in the house saw the accused person and the victim dressing up in the tenants’ bathroom. The witness informed the complainant and when the victim was quizzed she declined to speak about the incident.
However, two days later, the victim narrated what had transpired between her and the accused person.
On August 28, this year, a report was made to the Domestic Violence and Victim’s Support Unit, Tesano. During interrogation, prosecution said the victim stated that she and Boamah had had sex on two occasions and the latest one was on August 21, this year.
According to the victim on all the two occasions, she and the accused person had sex at the entrance of the toilet within the house.
A Police Medical form was issued to the victim to seek medical care. Boamah was picked up by the Police and in his caution statement he denied the offence.
The accused stated that he and the victim only “played romance” and they never had sex on all the two occasions as alleged by the victim.
