A 67-year-old man, Augustine Amponsah, has allegedly been poisoned by a fetish priest, Okomfo Amankwaa, in Amoawi, a community in the Offinso South municipality of the Ashanti Region.
According to Patrick Adusei, the son of the deceased, his father had sought the help of the fetish priest to retrieve gold from his land.
The fetish priest had requested a sheep sacrifice and promised to prepare chicken soup for Augustine to eat before performing the rituals.
"We questioned the request, but my father asked us to give him the benefit of the doubt since he knows the spiritual world. He told us it was raining, so we should sit on his veranda. He then sent his linguist to inform us that the chicken was ready, so we should come and eat," he said.
The fetish priest allegedly told Augustine that the power was in the soup, not the chicken. Tragically, Augustine died within a minute of tasting the soup, complaining of heart pain.
“He brought out a bowl from his back and put in the chicken and told my father the chicken is not as relevant as the soup when my father said he needed just two of the chicken. He said the power is in the soup. The moment my father tasted the chicken, he started complaining of his heart and he died within one minute,” he narrated.
Police investigation and family's demand for justice
The suspect, Okomfo Amankwaa, is currently in police custody, and the family is demanding justice for their loved one's untimely death.
This incident has sent shockwaves through the community, and the public is eagerly following the developments in the case.
