Accra, Feb. 11, GNA - Two persons who threatened a student with a kn= ife and robbed her of a handbag containing two mobile phones, a towel and GH¢= 149 cash were on Thursday sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each by an Accra=
Circuit Court.
Jeremiah Quarshie 18, and Benjamin Nii Kwei Kotey 20, both fishermen=
and residents of Chorkor, pleaded guilty to conspiracy and robbery. The court presided over by Mr C.A. Wilson before handing down their sentence, took into consideration the ages of the convicts.
The prosecutor, Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Reindolf Agyemang said on February 7, this year, the complainant Viviene A. Donkor=
and her fianc=E9 went to Muuton beach resort at Kokrobitey to relax. He said at about 1600 Hours while chatting on an old canoe at the beach, the convicts and another now at large, emerged from a nearby bush and pulled out a knife. Quarshie, who was holding the knife, threatened to stab the complain= ant and her fianc=E9 and the complainant out of fear threw her bag to Kotey a= nd they escaped. ASP Agyemang said the alarm was raised by the complainant and the convicts arrested after a hot chase by a mob and the items retrieved from=
them. Prosecution said the knife used in committing the offence could not be found in the bush.
When the convicts were interrogated they said they found the complainant= 's bag with its contents on an abandoned canoe. Kotey said he took it and after walking for about 200 meters from where the bag was, they were arrested.
