Two arrested for knapping and defiling girl 12

Winneba, April 3, GNA - Two men who knapped a 12-year-old girl on Easter Monday for two days and defiled her have been arrested by the Winneba Police and handed over to the Agona Swedru branch of the Women and Juvenal Unit for further investigation and prosecution.

The two are Kwesi Essel, a 25-year-old electrician and Kwabena Egyir, a 26-year-old taxi driver both who stayed at Winneba Junction. Mr. Nicholas Gasu, Winneba District Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency that on March 28, 2005, Egyir on his rounds as a cab driver met the girl at Winneba Junction in the evening convinced and picked her to his house, near a Police barrier.

ASP Gasu said Egyir defiled the victim until the following morning when he locked her in his room, handed the keys over to Essel and went to work.

According to the Police Commander, Essel within a very short time had sex with her three times in succession until the girl became weak. ASP Gasu said the girl managed to outwit him by putting on her underwear leaving her panties to go out and urinate but rushed to the Police barrier and reported her ordeal.

He said the Police rushed to the room and arrest Essel and latter found the girl's underwear in the room while Egyir was arrested later and the two handed over to the Women and Juvenal Unit for further investigations and prosecution.
