Two women have been arrested for using counterfeit money to buy goods.

The duo, Priscilla Nyaneba, 26, and Akoley Lartey, 28, are currently languishing in Police cells at Breman Asikuma in the Assikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District.

Nyaneba is a beautician while Akoley Lartey is a trader and a lactating mother. Both are residents of Winneba.

They were arrested Wednesday afternoon after some market women whom they have bought some items from raised alarm after detecting that the money they used in the exchange for their goods was counterfeit.

The two, Kasapafmonline.com understands, went on shopping spree since Tuesday, August 9, 2016.

“We followed them from Brakwa – from store to store until we got to Benin, a community near Breman Asikuma where they were finally accosted. The people had wanted to lynch them but we were able to take them to the Police Station to prevent any eventuality”, Kwabena Ebo, a trader who witnessed the incident told Kasapafmonline.com.

The victims reacting to the incident denied knowledge of using counterfeit money.

“We are all from Winneba. We met in Accra and became friends. We came here yesterday when a man called Francis invited us to come and decorate his wedding ceremony for him. He sent us some money through MTN mobile money and we cashed out that money when we got to Kasoa. That is what we have been using to buy goods from the traders. So we don’t know we were using fake money until this afternoon”, one of the victims narrated.

Chief Inspector of Police at Breman, Bismark Appiah when contacted confirmed the incident but noted that the case was under investigation and would keep the public informed after their investigation.
