Two jailed 50 years for robbery

Two persons were on Tuesday sentenced to 25 years imprisonment each by an Accra Circuit Court for conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

Ato Kwamina and Daniel Nii Ardey Armah were said to have conspired and robbed Dr Robert Darko Osei of GH¢ 1,540, four mobile phones, one wallet containing cash, jewellery, two wedding rings, one wrist watch, one Compaq laptop computer and a pen drive.

They were both convicted after full trial to serve a term of 15 years for conspiracy and 25 years for robbery both to run concurrently.

Prosecuting, a State Attorney, Ms Stella Ohene-Appiah, told the court that the complainant is a research fellow and lecturer who lives with his family at Northwest Odorkor, Accra.

She said on September 12, 2008, at about 0130 hours, the complainant and his household were woken up by a loud bang on their kitchen door.

She said suddenly six men, two of who were masked, entered the house and broke into all the seven rooms in the apartment.

The prosecution said in the process, an army officer in the house was shot in the right thigh, assaulted and various items including the cash and items.

Ms Ohene-Appiah told the court that one Solomon Duodo was arrested when he offered one of the stolen phones for sale and mentioned Eric Cobbinah and Kingsley Amankwah as his source of supply.

She said when they were also arrested, Kingsley Amankwah mentioned the other gang members as Ato Kwamina and Daniel Nii Addey Armah.

Daniel escaped arrest when the police went to his house at Anyaa and remained at large until he was finally arrested in August 2014 in connection with a different offence while Ato was also arrested upon a tip off.
