Two jailed by the Ash-Town Court for stealing

Kumasi, Jan 15, 2010. GNA - The Ash-Town Court in Kumasi has sentenced two young men to a total of 36 months imprisonment in hard labour for breaking into a bungalow at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and stealing cash and cell phone totalling GH¢350.00.

Abubakar Bizo, 22, and Amedu Mohammed, a 25-year old butcher pleaded guilty to the offence.

Police Chief Inspector Georgina Penn told the court presided over by Mr. S.K Achinah that the convicts live at Ayigya Zongo, near the KNUST.

On January 10, at about midnight, the two broke into one of the bungalows at the University and stole a cell phone, kettle and money belonging to Mr. Anthony Nii Mettle, a post graduate student. In the course of the burglary, Mettle woke up from his sleep and raised the alarm as the convicts took to their heels.

This attracted people in the neighbourhood who chased after them and managed to arrest and hand over Bizo to the police. Bizo later led the police to apprehend Mohammed.
