Two men alleged to have attacked and robbed a taxi driver, were on Friday put before a Kumasi Circuit Court to answer the charge of robbery.
Mohammed Abdul Manan Abubakar, alias “Baby Boy” and Mohammed Abdul Razak, alias “Young Devil”, reportedly committed the crime on November 4.
Standing trial with them are three other people – Abdul Abdulai Hakeem, Godwin Owusu-Ansah and Michael Boah, said to have supplied a locally manufactured pistol for the robbery.
They have also been charged with abetment of crime. All the five pleaded not guilty and were ordered by the court, presided over by Mrs. Afua Adu-Amankwaah, to be held in prison custody.
The five would make their next appearance on Monday, November 23.
Police Chief Inspector Akowuah said Abubakar and Razak engaged the services of the victim driver to carry them in his taxi from Aboabo to Suame in Kumasi.
This was at about 0330 hours and as they neared their said destination, Abubakar, who was occupying the front seat of the car, suddenly reached for the ignition key, put off the engine and pointed a gun to the head of the driver.
They then asked that he surrendered his cash and mobile phone, which he did. The pair got down and ordered him to drive off or get shot dead.
He drove straight to the Suame Police Station to report the incident and the two were tracked down to Dichemso and arrested together with the gun and eight stolen phones.
They told police investigators that the gun was supplied to them by the three other accused persons.
