UEW security guard imprisoned for defiling 12-year child

A 62-year old security guard of the University of Education, Winneba (UEW) has been sentenced to 15 years imprisonment in hard labour by the Agona Swedru Circuit Court for defiling a 12-year old girl.

He did the act while on duty at the residence of the Vice Chancellor of the University.

Abdul Rashid Sowah alias Francis Okporti pleaded guilty and was convicted on his own plea by the court.

The Prosecution, Police Chief Inspector Ave Agadia told the court presided over by Justice Mrs. Abigail Animah Asare that the accused person is a Security Guard at the University of Education Winneba while the victim lives with her parents in Effutu Ansaful.

The prosecution said somewhere in June, 2014, at about 1500 hours, while the accused person was on duty alone at the residence of the Vice Chancellor of the University at Effutu Ansaful, he saw the victim who had then been sent by her mother to buy some cooked rice, and quickly lured her into a garage used as security office at the said residency and had sexual intercourse with her three times.

Chief Inspector Agadia said, Sowah not satisfied with the act, he asked the victim to kneel down and ordered her to suck his penis, which she refused to do.

The prosecution said the accused person later gave the victim five Ghana Cedis and threatened to kill her if she ever revealed the act.

Chief Inspector Agadia said on 12th July 2014 at about 0200 hours the mother of the victim who is the complainant in the case, woke up from sleep and looking at her daughter, detected an abnormality in the private part of the girl whiles she slept.

She said the mother therefore woke her up and questioned her, and she narrated her ordeal at the hands of the accused.

The mother reported the matter to the police, and the accused was arrested and after investigations the accused was arraigned and charged with the offence, the prosecution said.
