Unemployed before court for defilement

A 20 year-old unemployed accused of allegedly defiling a 13 year-old girl, has been remanded into prison custody by the Tarkwa Circuit Court.

Emmanuel Mensah pleaded not guilty, and would re-appear before the court on Thursday, November 12.

Police Detective Chief Inspector Oscar Amponsah told the court that the complainant, Mr. Samuel Gyasi, is a retired educationist and lived with the victim, who is her daughter at Dekyemso in the Western Region.

He said at about 1000 hours on October 25, the victim’s sister sent her on an errand at Dadieso, a suburb of Dekyemso. After the victim has handed over the items and was returning home, she saw the accused person standing by the road side and he called her.

When the victim got closer to Mensah, he held her hand and demanded to have sex with her, Chief Inspector Amponsah said, adding that, the victim resisted and shouted for help but there was nobody around to rescue her.

The accused person dragged her into his room, had unlawful carnal knowledge of the victim without her consent, and gave her some money.

The victim rejected it and narrated her ordeal to the complainant immediately, she got home.

The prosecution said the complainant, therefore, reported the matter to the police, where he was issued with a medical form to send the victim to the hospital.

He said the medical personnel, who examined the victim at the Enchi Government Hospital, indicated that her hymen was torn and swollen.

The accused person was arrested and charged with the offence.
