Asamankese (E/R), June 20, GNA - the Asamankese Circuit Court has sentenced Charles Addoquaye Hammond, a 51-year-old unemployed, to 10 years imprisonment in hard labour for possessing Indian hemp. He pleaded guilty.
Police Chief Inspector S. A. Ntow prosecuting, told the court that members of the Akwatia Neighbourhood Watchdog Committee spotted Hammond in the bush in the Birim River mining area cutting some weeds they suspected to be Indian hemp and sent him to the Akwatia Police Station. The weeds were sent to the Police Forensic Laboratory in Accra and were certified as Indian hemp weighing 245 grammes.
