Unemployed jailed 15 years for robbery

An Accra Circuit Court on Wednesday sentenced Benjamin Borteye Odiafa, an unemployed who attacked with a knife and robbed an automobile engineer in his room at Nungua, to 15 years imprisonment.

Odiafa was found guilty by the court on the charge of robbery after one and half year trial.

The court presided over by Mrs Priscilla Dapaah Mireku however found Samuel K. Blankson, unemployed, who was charged alongside the convict not guilty on the charge of dishonestly receiving and was acquitted and discharged.

The fact as narrated by Inspector Samuel Ahiabor was that the complainant is Samuel Igbinosun and on October 10, 2018 Odaifa and one Mustapha and another who are at large went to the complainant’s room at Marte-Bu, Nungua and broke his door and attacked him with a knife.

Prosecution said the complainant sustain serious head injuries as well as wounds on his right hand.

The prosecution said Odiafa and his accomplices robbed the complainant of his 55 Inch Akai Flat Screen Television and one I-Phone seven plus.

Prosecution said after the act, Odiafa and his accomplices went to hide the stolen items with one Poppy who is yet to be arrested.

He said Odiafa later went for the items and sold the television to Blankson at the cost of GHC100.00.

The prosecution said a report was made to the Police at Nungua and Odiafa was arrested who led the Police to apprehend Blankson and the television retrieved.

Prosecution said Odiafa admitted the offence in his cautioned statement and indicated that he and his accomplices attacked the complainant with a screw driver and not a knife.
