Unemployed son threatens mum with death after theft

William Anaman, a 23-year-old unemployed man, on Tuesday appeared before Takoradi Circuit Court “B” for allegedly stealing 190 Ghana Cedis belonging to the mother and threatening her with death.

The court granted the accused who pleaded not guilty a bail of 2,000 Ghana Cedis with one surety to re-appear on October 8 this year.

Veronica Baidoo, the mother who is a trader stood surety for the accused.

Inspector Seth Ahelegbe said sometime in August this year, Veronica put 300 Ghana Cedis in one of her travelling bags for safe keeping in her room before travelling to Tarkwa.

He said when Veronica returned from the journey, she discovered 190 Ghana Cedis out of the amount she kept in a travelling bag was missing.

Inspector Ahelegbe said Veronica questioned her grand child who is witness in the case about the money but the child went to the room of the accused and began searching for the money.

He said the grandchild found the money under the floor carpet but the accused person came on the scene and collected the money from him.

Inspector Ahelegbe said the grandchild informed Veronica who asked the accused to hand over the money to her but the accused became offended, went for a cutlass from his room and chased Veronica and grandchild to kill them.

He said Veronica reported the matter to the Police and the accused person was arrested.

Inspector Ahelegbe said the accused person admitted the offence in his caution statement and after further investigations, he was charged.
