Wee man storms Police Headquarters

A 28-year-old illegal miner is in hot waters, having been arrested for storming the Ashanti Regional Police Headquarters with a substance believed to be cannabis.

The substance was allegedly found on Ernest Ofori Amoako when he was scanned at the main gate of the headquarters by a policeman on duty.

It was said to have been wrapped in a piece of paper and hidden in the pockets of the suspect when he was thoroughly screened around 11:00 am on Monday.

ASP Charles Appiah, Head, Drug Law Enforcement Unit, told this paper that the suspect would be charged with preparing to use narcotic drugs without lawful authority.

He said Amoako resides at Dunkwa Domenase and was visiting the police headquarters to make a follow-up to his case in which someone had purportedly collected his GH¢7,000 in the guise of taking him to Australia.

Upon reaching the main gate, Amoako saw a policeman busily searching people that were entering the headquarters so he also joined the queue and waited patiently for his turn.

During a thorough search on him, ASP Appiah maintained, the policeman retrieved a substance believed to be cannabis, wrapped in paper and concealed in Amoako’s pocket.

The suspect was instantly arrested and during interrogation he admitted that he bought the substance last Monday at Dunkwa Domenase but forgot that it was in his pocket when he was visiting the police headquarters.

Amoako also confessed that he used cannabis, explaining that he doesn’t smoke the substance but rather chews it. ASP Appiah disclosed that Amoako would be processed to court soon.

It will be recalled that Amoako’s latest arrest is the second time that a person has been arrested by the police for trying to enter the police headquarters since DCOP Kofi Boakye instituted the scanning of people that visit the place.

The first person to be apprehended at the Kumasi police headquarters gate – dubbed ‘Kofi Boakye’ or ‘Commander One Gate,’ had concealed a fully loaded foreign pistol in his cloth when policemen managed to arrest him during a search.

DCOP Kofi Boakye instituted the scanning of people that visit the headquarters immediately he was appointed regional commander to help protect policemen on duty at the head office.
