Woman, daughter murdered

Police in the Brong-Ahafo Region have stepped up investigations into the murder of a 43-year-old woman and her 10-year-old daughter at Ohene-Djan in Abesim.

The nearly decomposed bodies of Madam Abenaa Pomaa of Dormaa-Ahenkro and Nelson Oppong, a class four pupil of Excel International School, were discovered in their room on January 5.

Their throats were slashed, Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Patrick Adusei Sarpong, Acting Brong-Ahafo Regional Police Commander told the Ghana News Agency (GNA) on Monday.

He said the bodies had been deposited at the Wenchi Government Hospital for post-mortem.

ACP Sarpong said the deceased’s co-tenants suspected the incident happened on January 2, as the deceased and her daughter were last seen in the house on that Thursday evening.

He said because the deceased sometimes travelled to Tema, the tenants did not bother when they did not see her on January 3 and 4.

According to ACP Sarpong, the tenants picked a bad scent in the house and later found out it was emanating from the deceased’s room.

Realizing flies hovering around the windows of the deceased’s room, the tenants broke into the room and saw the bodies and informed the police.
