The Takoradi Circuit Court “B” on Monday sentenced John Botwe, a 32-year old wood carver, to four years imprisonment in hard labour for causing harm.
Botwe, who is also known as Kwabena Annan, pleaded guilty.
Prosecuting, Police Inspector Eudoxie Addo, told the court presided over by Mr. Justice Michael Ntumy, that the complainant, Togbui Siameh Bennard, is a farmer resident at Nipabre, a farming community near Wassaw Atobiase.
She said the accused person was also residing at Anto near Wassaw Atobiase.
Inspector Addo said, on March.15, the complainant visited his wife at Anto and at about 8.00 p.m. on that same day, the complainant used a footpath in-front of the house of the accused person to answer nature’s call at a public toilet.
She said the accused person flashed the face of the complainant with his touch light and the complainant enquired from the accused person why he did that, but the accused person became offended and insulted him.
Inspector Addo said a fight ensued between the two for about 10 minutes, and they separated without the intervention of anybody.
She said the complainant continued walking to the public toilet and on reaching a section of the foothpath when returning, a witness in the case advised him not to pass by the house of the accused person because he had armed himself with an offensive weapon to injure him.
She said, the complainant became adamant, and passed by the house of Botwe, who hit her with the offensive weapon, resulting in blood oozing profusely from her injured parts.
According to the prosecution, the accused person bolted from the village to an unknown destination, but upon a tip-off, he was arrested at his hide-out at Oruku, about six kilometres from Anto.
Inspector Addo said after a thorough investigation, Botwe was charged with the offence.
