A twenty-one-year-old second year Visual Arts student of the Kumasi Secondary Technical School (KSTS) in the Ashanti region, has been arrested for inflicting blade wounds on his mate.
Prince Owusu Boateng slashed both cheeks of Victor Owusu, a 17-year-old student with a used blade during a quarrel over a desk.
The incident occurred when the victim found Prince Owusu Boateng sitting on his desk after they had returned to the classroom after writing a Graphic Design and Picture Making examination in separate halls.
Prince Owusu Boateng’s attempt to get him to move from his desk resulted in a scuffle which led to him getting stabbed on the hand, beaten and subsequently slashed with the blade after a teacher had separated them.
Recounting the incident to Ultimate Radio’s Nana Oye Diabene, the victim narrated:
“We had returned to our classroom after writing examinations in separate exam halls. When I came in, he was sitting on my desk. When I asked him to move, he dared me to touch the desk. I did and he stabbed my hand with a pen. This turned into a scuffle. I was badly hurt on my eye and my mouth when a teacher separated us and asked us to wait for him in front of the staff room. Shortly after the teacher left us, he picked up a blade and slashed me twice on my cheeks. I collapsed only to find myself at the KATH later”.
The suspect, who went into hiding after the incident, was arrested Monday morning by the Sofoline Police in Kumasi.
Confirming the arrest, the Sofoline Police Commander, DSP Vitus Napem, indicated, “we made efforts to arrest him on that day, but unfortunately he escaped from the school. We kept surveillance on him and this morning the suspect was arrested and he has confessed committing the act.”
He told Ultimate Radio, the suspect is now being prepared for court.
