ex-convict commits suicide

New Edubiase (Ash), Oct. 25, GNA - A 25-year-old ex-convict, who found himself again in the grips of the law after assaulting his 65-year-old grandmother decided to end it all, since he apparently dreaded going to prison a second time by committing suicide. Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Emmanuel Simpson, Police Commander in-charge of New Edubiase in the Adansi South District, briefed the GNA on the incident leading to the death of Kwabena Anokye, who had just completed an 18-month jail term on charges of stealing. He said on October 3, this year, Anokye for no apparent reason decided to stone his grandmother, Adwoa Abebrese to death, but some good Samaritans around saved her.

ASP Simpson said the victim therefore reported the incident to the police later that evening.

Since the case was reported in the evening, the police decided to arrest Anokye the next morning, he said, but around 2200 hours in the night of the same day, police had another report that somebody had hanged himself on an avocado pear tree behind the house of Madam Abebrese (the victim).

ASP Simpson said on reaching the scene it was detected that it was Anokye, who was hanging dead from the avocado tree. The body of Anokye has since been deposited at the New Edubiase morgue, whilst police investigations continue.
