A Foundation For Prof Quartey

Professor Agyeman Badu Akosa, Director-General of the Ghana Health Services has announced in Middlesbrough, UK, that a Foundation would be established in memory of Professor J.M.K. Quartey, the late Urologist of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital.

He expressed the hope that the Foundation would assist the Health Service to continue the good work of the late Urologist and enhance the provision of health care in the countryside as a whole.

Professor Akosa made the announcement at the fourth annual dinner dance organised by the Ghana Union of Middlsbrough and Darlington in the UK. The yearly Ghana Day celebration in the Teeside is organised for members of the Union to socialise and raise funds for charitable purposes in Ghana.

The Director-General urged all Ghanaians, particularly Ghanaian medical practioneers living abroad to help immortalise the ideals of Professor Quartey by contributing generously to the Foundation.

Professor Akosa conceded that there was a wide disparity in the quality of health delivery between the urban and rural areas and called on Ghanaians in to support the foundation to help bridge the gap.

Professor J.M.K. Quartey died in a road accident along with his two colleagues namely Dr. Benjamin Osei-Wiafe and Dr. Isaac Bentsi while returning from an outreach programme at the Sunyani General Hospital.
