– Ghana/Africa Relations
Washington, DC - Thursday April 1, 2010
AMIP News President & Vice, Frederick & Beryl Nnoma-Addison have presented the first copies of a newly published historic picture book on U.S. - Ghana /Africa relations to Ambassador Daniel Ohene Agyekum.
The 177 page, perfect bound book which has already been profiled by CNN's Larry King is titled "The United States & Ghana: Celebrating 50 Years of Friendship & Progress In Pictures." It is the most comprehensive photographic compilation of historic events that have ever transpired between the United States & Ghana since 1957. The second part, also in pictures, focuses on the evolution of U.S.-Africa relations. The 237 carefully selected historical photographs and supporting text presents U.S.-Ghana /Africa relations on a chronological time line as has never been done before. Before the presentation, the author and publisher Frederick Nnoma-Addison gave a brief account of the evolution of the book and hinted that American and Ghanaian governments and people have engaged with each other far more closely over the past 5 decades than most citizens realize. In his foreword, Ghana's Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honorable Alhaji Muhammad Mumuni wrote:
“Between a historical road map, a reference book and a hand book for diplomats and anyone with interest in U.S. - Ghana and/or U.S. - Africa relations, this book captures and shares 50 years of international relations in a very refreshing and unconventional way and I am extremely proud of Ghana's contributions."
Accepting the first copies on behalf of his embassy and the government of Ghana, Ambassador Ohene Agyekum who personally collaborated with AMIP News on this publication commended the organization for "an outstanding job" and discussed ways the book could be marketed and distributed in the United States and Ghana to further promote and educate Americans about Ghana and vice versa. AMIP's Vice President, Beryl Nnoma-Addison edited the publication.
Altogether 33 institutions including 3 U.S. presidential libraries contributed to the publication which took 9 months to complete and thousands of research hours. A grand launching ceremony which will take place at the Ghana Embassy - Washington, DC is currently being planned for the first week of May, after which a separate launching will be scheduled for Accra, Ghana's capital city.
