Ashanti Unity Day Dance In New York

Over the years, various Associations within Asanteman have held their own Christmas parties. This year is going to be different and historical. All the Associations have come together to celebrate the Christmas. Not only is it cordial; guess what? It is happening on Christmas Day. This initiative and a symbol of unity was led by the hardworking and dignified Daasebre Nana Anane Amponsah, New York Asantefuohene and current Vice President of National Council of Ghanaian Associations in NY (NCOGA) and influential leaders of various Associations within Asanteman in NY. The event has the blessing of the King of Asanteman, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II.

In a nutshell, Asanteman Association of USA in conjunction with Asafo, Fante New Town, Amakom (USA) Inc, AshTown Club, (USA) Inc., Amansie Kuo, Asante Mampong Kontonkyi, Suame Kuo, Ejisuman Association, Tafo Pankrono, Kwabere Kuo, Agogoman Association, Adansiman Association, and Effiaduase Association are thankful in presenting the Ashanti Unity Dance to the media.

Ashanti Unity Dance comes off on Saturday December 25, 2004 in the hours of 10pm to 4am at Minisink Town House located at 646 Lenox Avenue, NY.

The Ghanaian community is one of the fastest growing in New York City and according to "The Newest New Yorkers-2000", an update of immigration to NYC issued by NYC Department of City Planning. Especially in the Bronx, the Ghanaian community ranks behind Dominican Republic nationals as the dominant immigrant population.

The organizing committee comprised of leaders of various Associations in New York namely: Nana Anane Amponsah, Asantefuohene; Dr. Yaw Antwi, Effiaduase Pres; Adomako Fofie, Effiaduase Vice-Pres; Yaw Oteng-Adjei, AFA President; Kwame Asumeng, AFA (USA) Sec; George Bonah, AshTown Club President; Nana Bofah Abebrese (AshTown); Francis Nsiah-Tuffour, Amansie President; Nana Kwabena Amakye, Amansie Vice Pres.; Baafour Awuah, Suame President; Martha Boadu, Suame Vice Pres.; Nana Osei Sarpong, Asanteman Fin. Sec; Kofi Adu Boahen, Mampong Kontokyi Chairman, Nana Assenso Kodie, Mampong Kontonkyi; Edward Mensah, Ejisuman President; Desmond Nkansah, Ejisuman Financial Secretary.

This historical event would be featured exclusively on Ghanaweb, by the Internationally known Photojournalist, Mr. CNN. It is a great evening for all Ghanaians and Friends of Ghana. It is a unity day, a send-off party for year 2004 and also hoping for the best in the new and upcoming "fresh out of the oven" 2005.
