C100 Donated To St. Anne's Institute

An amount of C100m has been donated to the St. Anne?s Vocational Institute at Nuaso near Odumase Krobo in the Eastern Region to assist the school to complete its new dormitory block.

The presentation was made by Mrs. Marian Osei, wife of the Ghana High Commissioner to the UK, who together with three old students of the School Mrs. Agnes Appiah, Mrs. Anna Eshun and Mrs. Janet Adade organised a special fundraising event in London for the school and other selected schools in the Ga District.

Present at the presentation ceremony at Nuaso were Mr. Isaac Osei, Ghana High Commissioner to the UK, Nana Otuo Acheampong, Publisher of the Ghana Review International, Mrs. Dedo Kusi, NPP Parliamentary candidate for Manya Krobo constituency, Mrs Iris Asamoah, Manager, Greater Accra Catholic Schools, Mrs Theresa Osei Anim, Assistant Manager, SSNIT and Rev. Sr Edgitha Agnes Opoku, Principal of the School and community some leaders within the area.

Making the presentation, Mrs. Osei urged women to come out from their shells and take up responsible leadership roles to salvage the nation from the doldrums of poverty for the benefit of future generations.

She called on women to prove to society that if they were given the opportunity they would be capable of standing up to the task. She called for a serious educational campaign for women and children to enable them take their rightful places in the society.

Mrs. Osei told the students to strive for excellence and a daily advancement in knowledge to enable them compete with their male counterparts.

She said every effort should be made to assure the girl-child that she was protected and given every chance to develop and tap her God-given talents and potentials.

Rev. Sr. Edgitha Agnes Opoku thanked Mrs. Osei and her colleagues for their initiative and assured them that the money would be put to good use. She called for more support from philanthropists, organisations and public-spirited individuals to turn the school into a modern institution that could compete with others globally.

Nana Otuo Acheampong called for discipline among the students, emphasising that a disciplined society produced a reliable workforce responsible for higher productivity and growth in personal and national income.

Mrs Dedo Kusi emphasised the importance of acquiring vocational skills which would put many of the institute's graduates into self-employment. She commended the institute for its good work and pledged her continued support for the school.

Mrs. Osei later paid a courtesy call on Nene Sackitey Konor of Manya Krobo at his Palace and visited the Right Rev. J.O. Bowers, Bishop Emeritus of Accra, who founded the School at Agomanya.
