Eweme Habobo, UK Meeting

EWEME HABOBO (UK) – 3RD QUARTERLY MEETING

The third quarterly meeting of Eweme Habobo, UK took place at Euston, London recently. There was a fair attendance this time in relation to previous meetings due largely to the shift in the dates for the meetings. The association under the chairmanship of Mr Michael F Adevor deliberated on a number of issues. He took time to brief the members about developments in Ghana in general and specifically in the lower Volta Region.

A particular item which was reviewed and discussed extensively was the annual Easter fund raising party . Mr Cephas Adinkra, the Welfare/Entertainment Officer who enumerated on the efforts being made to make next year’s Easter party and fund raising event much bigger than previous years. He assured members that he was working hard to put in place a team of competent volunteers and planners towards the fundraising event. He informed the meeting that the venue, Tottenham Green Leisure Centre has already been booked and next year’s celebration will fall exactly on Easter Saturday, 11 April 2009. He promised to provide PowerPoint display of projects being executed presently and future projects at the next year’s event. The house applauded the efforts being made by Mr Adinkra and his team.

The members decided to source for textbooks, exercise books, pens and pencils for a number of deprived schools in the region. The members also resolved to institute a number of scholarship schemes for brilliant but needy students in the region.

The Chairman at this juncture asked members to draw up lists of projects which they believe the association can effectively execute in their various areas and also those that could be carried out to benefit the region as whole. A suggestion of a regional project was the provision of computers and printers to the offices of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs and material support ot the Kpandu Lions FC.

The Chairman also briefed the house of his intention to meet the leaders of the various Eweme associations in the UK to establish a platform for working together towards the development of the entire lower Volta Region. He assured the gathering that he was working with his executives to revamp the membership base of the association. He informed members that efforts are being made to update its constitution to address the welfare needs of its members.

The association has also planned to re-launch its newsletter as a mouth piece and a tool for updating members of developments in the Volta Region. The association used the occasion to appeal to dormant members to become more active. Past chairmen were encouraged to avail themselves and their expertise at the disposal of the association. Members resolved to deepen their brotherliness and not to limit their interaction to meeting days only.

The meeting closed with a number of members donating various items including footballs, pens and cash to help the association in furtherance of its projects. The next meeting has been scheduled for 15th November 2008 at Tenants Association Hall, Barnby Street, Ampthill Square( off Eversholt Street) London, NW1..
