Former Wall Street Broker Contests Kwadaso Seat:

FORMER WALL STREET BROKER CONTESTS KWADASO SEAT:

A former Wall Street Financial Consultant for Merrill Lynch in New York City has submitted his application as an NPP parliamentary candidate for Kwadaso. Mr. Alex Abel Adusei, who is currently the Deputy Executive Secretary for the Divestiture Implementation Committee (DIC), is a Founding Member of the NPP and has been resident in the Agric. Area of Kwadaso in Kumasi for a long time.

Mr Alex A. Adusei has toured all the 61 polling stations in the constituency and thinks most of the residents are dismayed at the slow pace of infrastructural developments, the heavy traffic tie-ups near major streets, poor sanitation facilities, lack of motivational packages for teachers, and the sheer apathy among the foot soldiers in the party. He thinks we must quickly transform Ghana and our politics to give hope to our people.

As an MP, he intends to engage in pragmatic and meaningful programs that would harness the natural and human resources in the communities. He would lobby major Investors to appraise the apparent business opportunities in the area before the completion of the Sofo-line / Abuakwa highway. He maintains that Kwadaso needs a leader with local and international connections (with direct access to major Wall Street listed companies) to guarantee speedy developments; a dedicated leader who lives within the Kwadaso enclave; and a leader more accessible / accountable to the people.

In recent past, Mr. Adusei has: Made generous financial contributions to the Kwadaso party office, Made contributions to the NPP Regional office, Has received a special award-certificate to acknowledge his significant contributions to the NPP-USA towards Ghana’s crucial ‘2000 elections, Had been actively involved in the final passage of ROPAA by parliament, and Has served as an Observer at the last December NPP Congress at Legon. He states “The enormity of my political pedigree, requisite experience, contacts, contributions, sacrifices, initiatives, as well as my determination to improve the living standards of my area of residence, make me the right person to represent this constituency”. His vision is to promote the reduction of poverty levels and high unemployment in the area within the shortest possible time, targeting education, proper health care delivery, assistance to small businesses, and infrastructural developments. He is advocating the need for ICT Youth Centers, and a special hostel for local and foreign medical personnel to entice such professionals to the area. He would want the Sofo-line mechanics to regroup and equip them with soft loans to compete successfully with their Suame-magazine counterparts. He is also recommending scholarships for needy students and special bonus-packages for dedicated teachers. In the same vane, he would like to see the party foot soldiers properly employed to serve as an incentive to all others willing to sacrifice for the great party. For the youth groups in the churches and schools, he would want them to lead a crusade against moral decadence in the community.

Mr. Alex A. Adusei is urging the delegates to rise up to deliver the positive changes that the residents are yearning for by voting massively for him in the primaries. If Ghana is on course to middle-income status by 2015, Kwadaso must be well positioned to benefit from such statistics. He wants to mobilize the available revenue and human resources more efficiently, and establish systems that would formalize economic participation at all levels. His strategy includes:

• the inauguration of all Unit Committees for re-focusing,

• recognition of all grass-root democratic structures to put leaders on their toes,

• frequent interactions between the MP and other stakeholders in the constituency,

• collaboration with chiefs and others to ensure that projects truly benefit the people

• improving the yawning gap between the government and the party machinery,

• re-ordering the priorities of the constituency and grooming young leaders,

• attract major Investors to the area and equip existing Small Businesses with soft loans to create more jobs for the people,

• reduce the level of human mistakes in the voting patterns of the area to achieve massive victory during elections, and

• converting NDC, CPP and floating voters for the NPP in the December elections.

He concluded “The party needs to do more to increase its voting margins and at the same time avoid the threat of “skirt and blouse” voting blocks in this constituency. I believe that I am the best candidate ready to dedicate my entire life to ensure the speedy development of this community because, unlike the other contestants, I live here with you and suffer the same traffic congestions and poor sanitation problems. I am competent, learned, down-to-earth kind of guy who is solely interested in the developmental efforts to reduce poverty in this area called Kwadaso. All around us are some prominent institutions: the Kwadaso Agric. College; University of Education – Winneba, Tanoso Campus; Prempeh College; Yaa Asantewaa Sec.; Opoku Ware Sec., etc. Are there any tangible reasons why the young ones from this area can not benefit from these learning centers? If elected, I will change that and promote education from the basic to the tertiary levels”.

He may sound ambitious but it is exciting to listen to Mr. Alex A. Adusei who has an MBA degree from the esteemed Long Island University in New York City, as well as a professional certificate in Monitoring & Evaluation from GIMPA. He is truly a man of many accomplishments with professional licenses in Securities Advisory (NASD Series 7, 65, 63, 6 and 3), Insurance Brokerage, Insurance Claims Adjusting, Mortgage Financing, Real Estate Investments, and Risk Underwriting. It seems most of the voting delegates have confidence in this captivating man to work with him as the MP who wants to leave a good legacy for the next generation.

Mr. Adusei was born and raised at Ashanti New Town, Kumasi, he attended the Salvation Army School, completed O’ & ‘A levels at Kwame Nkrumah Secondary School at Axim (near Takoradi), and sojourned in the USA where he continued his university education in New York City. His mother is the Akwaboahemaa of Bantama, Kumasi. He is married, has three adult children and incidentally, his wife attended the Yaa Asantewaa Secondary School at Tanoso (right in the constituency).
