GaDangme Our Future (GDOF) is a growing network of young people of GaDangme heritage living in the UK. The organisation, based in London, was founded by Nii Nortei Omaboe in December 2004, with the support from Nii Ashaley Asuku II and Dr. Vince Padi.
GDOF is run by a committee of young GaDangme concerned about the lack of communication between young GaDangme based in the UK and the lack of suitable and attractive opportunities for them to engage with their cultural background. Often, whilst young UK-based GaDangme are rightly proud of their origin, they do not have the opportunity to be more informed about their heritage or to even learn the language in a sociable environment. This organisation was thus set up to bring together those with a GaDangme background, or interest, to interact with each other and establish strong social and professional relationships within the community.
GDOF aims to promote and maintain an understanding and connection with the cultural heritage of the GaDangme people including the active participation of young people in the celebration of long-standing social customs and festivals. For details on what we get up to, please have a look at our website ? www.GaDangmeOurFuture.org.uk
Since our inaugural dinner dance last December, we have hosted many educational and social events, from which we have received exceptional feedback. Our culture seminar series on Kpojiemo (outdooring) and Gblamingbotemo (engagement- marriage ceremony) were very well attended. It is our intention that we will meet, network and share and that wherever and whenever possible to create a legacy for the future GaDangme.
GaDangme Our Future is supported by all GaDangme organisations in London, Western Union and Haringey Council.
