Ghanaians students numbering close to one hundred who are into various programs of study ranging from International Studies, Communication Studies, Engineering, Education, Instructional Technology to Biochemistry at Ohio University in the USA and their dependants are not to be left out of the activities lined up for the Golden Jubilee celebration of the attainment of independence of their beloved nation Ghana. Although they are in the diaspora they have lined numerous activities to commemorate the occasion.

It is in light of the above that at the beginning of the 2006/7 academic year in September 2006 at the welcoming party for fresh Ghanaian students at OU, a -9- member committee was set up to organize the 50th anniversary celebration on campus. The members of the committee are; Akwesi Agyemang, Cynthia Kyei, Augustina Adusah, Albert Adusah, Andrew Ofori- Birikorang , James Adabor, Beauty Agbavor, Rhodaline Baidoo , Ben Kwame Ofori.

The celebration is slatted to be observed at the Athens campus of Ohio University from February 25th and with the climax on March 3rd 2007.The major events are as follows:-
1). 25th February - Thanksgiving Service at New Life Assembly of God Church

2). 28th February - Lecture by Dr. Francis Godwyll
Venue :- Bentley Hall 132

Time : - 3.00 pm
Topic “The new Ghana:- Championing African Excellence”

3). 3rd March - Anniversary Banquet @ Ping Center
Time : - 7.00 pm.

Meanwhile a football match between Ghanaians and the rest of African students is scheduled to take place in April during the spring quarter. The event will witness Ghanaian alumni of OU in around the US visiting the campus to be part of the celebration.
