The Ghanaian-Canadian Association of Ontario (GCAO) will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Ghana (The Golden Jubilee) in Toronto beginning in February through July 2007 with special events highlighting Ghana's political and economic journey over the 5 decades.
The celebrations will be launched at St. Paul's Anglican Church, 227 Bloor Street on February 25.The detailed program is as follows:
March 3, 2007: 5-9pm :
Seminar on Ghana with the theme "Ghana, Then and Now / Diasporic Connection" with renowned Black American Professor Molefi Asante.
Tuesday March 6:
The flag of Ghana will be raised at Queens Park, the parliament House of Ontario. Other major activities planned for the Golden Jubilee celebrations include:
· Saturday March 24: Jubilee concert with Match Pass, Photo Exhibition, Youth Talent and Cultural display at Don Bosco, Hwy 401 and Islington.
· Saturday, March 31, 2007 : Jubilee Dinner/Dance on at La Vita Banquet Hall featuring Pat Thomas and other artists.
· May 20, 2007 : Gospel Musical Concert at the Ghanaian Presbyterian Church on.
· June 29, 2007 : Soccer Tournament," African Cup" involving Ghana, Nigeria, Congo, Ethiopia, Somalia, Sierra Leone, Eritrea and Angola for the Ghana Jubilee Cup on.
The climax of the celebration shall be a festival in the Park to showcase Ghana's Cultural Heritage dubbed "GHANAFEST 2007" on Sunday July 1. This will include exhibition of Ghanaian Arts & Crafts, Durbar of Chiefs, Ghanaian Recipes, made in Ghana products, Ghanaian Fashion, music etc. Ghana's 50 th Birthday shall thus be linked to her Republic, which was also attained on July 1, 1960.
