Ghana Demands Apology From Standard Times

The Ghanaian High Commission to Sierra leone is demanding an apology from Standard Times newspaper for a rhetorical question posed in the paper's editor's note, which suggested to raise doubts about the integrity of the High Commission and the government of Ghana in it's Friday, 24th March 2006 edition, a release from the Ghana High Commission states.

The statement stated Mokowa BlayAdfu-Gyamfi who is Ghana's High Commissioner to Sierra Leone wishes to dispel the wrong impression being created, as she is only one month old in the country.

For the avoidance of any doubt, the statement stated that, the High Commission wishes to inform the editor that he has to cross check his information, which is the basic standard of good journalistic practice.

"Mokowa Blay Adu-Gyamfi came to Sierra Leone for the first time as a leader of a team to do a training Programme for the "National Sero Prevalence Team" from 1st to 8th June 2005, in her capacity as Deputy Programme Manager of the Ghana National HIV/AIDS Control Programme," the release stated and noted that this fact is not secret to the Presidency, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Health and other stakeholders in the country.

The release maintained that the High Commissioner has high international standing as an HIV/AIDS expert who has traveled extensively in Africa on the subject of global interest.
